Year's Pups and Planned Breedings
Note: All titles are AKC (American Kennel Club), the only true, original dog registration and show organization in the U.S. Abbreviation guide: Ch. = conformation champion; Ch. pts. = conformation champion points); FCh. = field champion; DCh. = dual champion (both conformation and field championships); C.D. = companion dog; C.D.X. = companion dog excellent; U.D. = utility dog; T.D.= tracking dog; NA = novice agility; NAJ = novice agility jumpers; OA = open agility; OAJ = open agility jumpers; JE = junior earthdog; MS = miniature smooth designator
We anticipate having puppies of both show and pet quality available. Show quality means I feel that the pup will grow up with few conformation faults (no dog is perfect) according to the AKC Official Standard of the Dachshund and will be able to finish it's breed championship with a good handler. Pet quality means that the pup has either several minor conformation (not health) faults or one major conformation fault (such as a missing testicle or a missing tooth) according to the AKC Official Standard of the Dachshund standard which would make it difficult, or even impossible, to finish it's AKC conformation championship title. Most of my pet quality pups are actually good enough to be shown and even win some points, unlike some breeders' pet stock who barely resemble dachshunds. Since there are usually at least one or two outstanding pups in each of my litters that I will keep for show and/or breeding, I feel that the slightly lesser quality pups deserve homes of their own as beloved companions.
Pet puppies, regardless of color, are sold on spay/neuter contracts with limited AKC registration papers and health guarantees. People interested in a pet puppy should be prepared to provide references, such as from their vet and obedience/agility instructor or from a local kennel club member. Nonrefundable $50 deposits are accepted to reserve a pet quality puppy, although a specific pup cannot be chosen until the show quality pups have been selected at 10 weeks of age. Serious inquiries are invited from established breeders of show dogs for show-quality puppies as we do sell our good ones, both solids and piebalds, with show-potential guarantees. See our Older Show/Performance Prospects page (link at bottom of this page) for older, available show or performance prospects, and our Individual Older Pups or Dogs For Sale page for older available pet puppies and young adults.

Duchwood's Little Terror MS
x Duchwood's Good Timber MS
Date of Birth: November 4, 2009 Litter Composition: 1 black/tan girl, 1 red girl - both carry the piebald gene Pups pictured at 15 weeks of age.
"Eve" black/tan girl - nice head; long upper
arm, shoulder placement a little forward but that usually corrects with
age; topline a little strange but improving with age; really nice rear
angles; possible show prospect - I'm liking her more and more, but she
can go as a pet for $450 on a spay contract. Will be small - less
than 10 lb.; loves to talk; has a low, throaty bark which is quite funny.
"Elsie" - red girl - nice shoulder layback but short upper arm; good topline, moderate rear angles, pretty head with liquid brown eyes, heavy bone; actually a decent mover. Will mature around 11 lb. This is a nice, sturdy girl with a delightful, playful temperament. Possible show or performance prospect or available as a pet on a spay contract for $450. |

Duchwood's Claire of Grandgables
MS x Duchwood's Quasar MS (needs a major to finish)
Date of Birth: November 12, 2009 Litter Composition: 1 black/tan boy, 1 red boy, 1 red girl - NO BRINDLES - darn! Pups pictured at 14 weeks of age.
"Rio" - black/tan boy - nice front and rear
angles, a little leggy right now but had good bone with really tight feet;
good topline, cute head; could have longer ribbing and keel but overall
underline is smooth so it is not noticeable; handsome head; wonderful mover;
definite show prospect.
"Rachel" - red girl - long upper arm but shoulder
layback a little lacking; nice rear angles; good topline; really
cute head; could use longer ribbing and keel; good bone with tight feet;
moves with a good topline but a little flippy in front; show prospect that
we will keep here for now.
"Reggie" - red boy - nice front and rear angles; good topline, super cute head that looks just like dad; will probably be small; a little short in ribbing and keel but better than his brother; has brown nails so probably carries chocolate; good bone and tight feet; looks just like his sire did at that age; good mover with a slight rise over the topline; show/performance prospect. |
